Here is a study of a trumpeter and Hussar of Lauzun's Legion as they would have appeared in the Yorktown campaign of 1781. Some of the Hussars were armed with Lances. I am well into a LARGE painting of the Battle of the Hook between Tarleton's Cavalry and the Legion and did this really as a warm up to be certain I understood the complex details of the uniforms and horse equipage. Hussars are a challenge to get right IMO but I love them! Since I finished this I have made a few additional uniform modifications in the larger painting.
