Civil War. Trooper of the 3rd New Jersey Hussars 1864. They wore a uniform jacket with heavy yellow worsted lace and had sky-blue French style talmas with an orange lining. The colorful uniform was basically to induce recruitment. They did wear it into battle. Watercolor and gouache on paper
